What we're about
Living Word Ministries – LWMI – is an evangelical, Charismatic Christian Church. It was founded in 1994 by Pastor Charles and Helen Boakye. The church is currently based in Brixton, South London.
Rooted in Love
Our highest call is to love. Love is at the heart of how Jesus says others will recognise us as His (John 13:35 – “By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”). It is out of love that all things flow and is something we continuously strive to do in everything we do. Love is at the forefront as it is because of love, not duty that Jesus was sent.
Rooted in Faith
Our head Pastor graduated from Rhema Bible College, therefore, faith is at the forefront of everything we do and teach. In its simplest form, it means to believe God (Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God”). As a result, Faith is the most necessary prerequisite for salvation. It is from this place we can have a bold and intimate relationship with God.
Committed Community
As a “family” church, we value our community and members. We desire to be one body, encouraging, challenging and loving one another through good and challenging times. Though we are very much committed to each other, we choose to make our services accessible to everyone who comes through our doors.
Effective Equipping
We want to see everyone who is part of Living Word Ministries actively pursuing their calling and equipped to live the whole of their lives for the glory of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. We recognise that one of the key roles of the Holy Spirit is to equip God’s people to live for Him. We believe that as we spend time in Gods presence and His word, we will be transformed and come to wholeness – this involves character development, emotional and physical healing.
Relevant Evangelism
We want to bring the message of the gospel to the people of our community in a way that is relevant and accessible. We do not want Living Word Ministries to be a place of escape, rather a place where members are equipped and encouraged to engage in the world around us, as we are not called out of the world, but into the world. Our hope is to be a church without walls that goes beyond the four walls of our Sunday services and into the community and beyond to win souls for Jesus.
We want to invest time in worshipping Jesus, loving each other and the wider community.
We want members to be established in the word of God “that we should no longer be tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting Hebrews 4:14).
We want to get involved with what God is doing in our nation. To not be an Island church, but one that is plugged into what the wider church is doing nationwide.
We want to be a church that takes the great commission seriously and live to spread the good news of Jesus through the surrounding community.
Our mission is to raise up Men and Women that are grounded in the word of God, reaching and influencing the world for Jesus and empowering people to lead a Christ-Centred life.
